The protected landscape encompasses an area of 5.19 km2 in the Municipality of Rakovica, with the exception of the Natura 2000 Ecological Network.
The first written materials describing this area, and thus also Barać Caves, can be found in the History of Cartography in the area of Krajina by Marsiglia from 1699.
Monitoring the preservation conditions of a natural environment, i.e. species and habitat types is, in its essence, the activity of counting and/or measuring the number and prevalence of a species or habitat type through a longer period of time.
The ecological network of the Republic of Croatia was proclaimed with the Regulation on the Ecological Network (NN 124/13), and represents the area of the ecological network of the European Union Natura 2000.
